David Bates (1840 – 1921)
Midlands Landscape painter in both oil and watercolour, an example of which is illustrated in Christopher Woods book, the “Dictionary of Victorian Painters”, David Bates lived most of his life in the Midlands and exhibited 19 pictures at the Royal Academy. Most of his work is landscapes and views of rural life. Locations are often of the midlands but he also painted in the hills and mountains of Wales
