William Lionel WYLLIE RA (1851-1931)
Highly collected marine artist famous for oils, watercolours and etchings. The most distinguished of a family of marine artists, son of William Morison Wyllie and brother of Charles William Wyllie.

He studied at Heatherleys and RA schools where he won the Turner Gold Medal in 1869.

|
He exhibited at the RA from 1868 as well as Sussex Street, New Watercolour Society and the Grosvenor Gallery. He became an associate of the Royal Academy in 1889 and a Royal Academician in 1907. His work is held at the Tate, Bristol and Liverpool galleries.
